InkPalm 5 mini e-reader
I've been using a InkPalm 5[^fn:1] ebook reader for more than a year now. I say more than a year but I've only actually completed one book in it so far[^fn:2]. Due to its compact size, it makes for an excellent choice during travel.
It's evident that the device is geared towards the Chinese market, and anything outside is a mere afterthought. Switching the device language to English doesn't switch the language in some place. There are some typos and grammar mistakes that I keep coming across.
But I've grown to like it, in fact, gives it a little bit of character. No pun intended. It was intimidating at first but I got used to it, and I only interact with the reader app.
The battery lasts a full day reading, maybe a couple of days with light reading. It leaves more to be desired, and is my only complaint about the thing. It's one of my favourite gadgets ever.
Reader app
Until last week, I was using FBReader, which is a nice and lightweight app. I have now switched to KOReader. Both are great.
Setting up
I don't fully remember all the steps, but I know that I followed this guide by github user named philips. This reddit post by /u/satsuma_sada is great.
Loading books
The device itself is not connected to the internet, hence the wifi stays off. I've also disabled bluetooth.
So, I use Calibre to load books from my computer. The device has 32GB of internal storage. That's quite plenty for my needs.
